Greenboots (A Children's Story)
I want to tell you about Greenboots:
He was once called Mudfoot
because he never cleaned between his toes
never washed his feet,
never ever!
Nobody would let him into their homes
as his feet were always muddy
but
Everybody liked him,
he was always cheerful
and
really looked after the trees in the valley.
He saw to the planting of saplings,
the little trees
and
he protected the old and mature trees
from foreign woodcutters,
those people who knew nothing about trees
except to cut them down for timber.
In the centre of this valley
stood a thicket of huge trees.
These trees bore a red fruit
that fed the Blue birds of happiness-
you know the ones I mean:
the birds that laugh-sing when they fly
and make everbody look up and smile.
